Chelsea College of Art:
Here Raishma studied foundation course of art and design. This was the start of Raishma initial introduction into fashion. The area of fashion covered were, fabric manipulation, sketching, understanding fabrics.
De Montfort University:
Raishma completed her degree in fashion and textiles at De Montford University. This was a BA Hons, she obtained an upper second degree class. Areas she studied were pattern cutting, draping on the stand, designing a collection, trends predication, fashion marketing, business studies, CAD
This gave Raishma the grounding and basic tools to further her career in the fashion industry by working alongside famous names such as Elizabeth Emanuel and Bella Freud.
Elizabeth Emanuel:
She was then fortunate enough to secure the role of assistant designer to Elizabeth Emanuel (the designer of Princess Diana’s Wedding Dress) in 1996. She worked alongside Elizabeth and helped to launch her new store in Chiltern Street in central London.
Raishma helped liaise with Elizabeth’s celebrity clients such as Ringo Star amongst others. She also created story boards and design ideas for the up and coming bridal and eveningwear collections. Raishma gained vast knowledge in corsetry, and couture finishing working alongside such a creative mentor.
Bella Freud:
Raishma then has the opportunity to obtain and work placement with Bella Freud. She worked as part of the design team at her studio, and helped to prepare for London Fashion week.
Raishma thoroughly enjoyed this experience, proving to be a valuable insight to the workings of the British fashion industry, from marketing and PR, to dealing with the media.
Bruce Oldfield:
After graduating in fashion with an Upper Second BA Honours Degree from De Montfort University in 1995, Raishma then went on to train under the renowned British Fashion designer Bruce Oldfield on a work placement.
This was an invaluable experience for Raishma. Couture finishing and pattern cutting was observed and undertaken by Raishma in his design studio. Bruce was impressed by Raishma’s draping skills and general design ability.
